SOMArts Gallery : Speak Your Peace. Curated by Justin Hoover.

Artists: Richard Kamler, 30th Street Poetas, Silvi Alcivar, Tressa Berman and the Institute for Inter-Cultural Practice, Evan Bissell, Uzi Broshi, Victor Cartagena, Coronet Center Philosopher Poets, Nestor Casco, Ck1, Shaghayegh Cyrous, Eldergivers: Art With Elders at Laguna Honda Hospital, Ala Ebtekar, Clinton Fein, Sevetta Gay, John Halaka, Taraneh Hemami, Betty Nobue Kano, Ida Marksman, David Ratliff, The Victorian Manor Poets in collaboration with Creative Arts Charter School.

Comment by AB: Bay Area artists of various ages, ethnicities and nationalities come together to present a multimedia exhibition focused on visions of peace. Works of art and installations offer a diversity of perspectives on where we've been, where we are now, the absence of peace, and how we might someday become one if we ever manage to resolve our differences.

Alter Space : Joshua Hagler - In The Box Beneath The City.

Comment by AB: In the front gallery, Joshua Hagler previews a selection of heroic oversized paintings from his latest series, The Unsurrendered, inspired by famous American paintings of the past. Smaller works on paper from the series are also on display. In the rear gallery are story boards from a forthcoming graphic novel begun during the course of a three-month residence in the Alter Space basement.

Chandran Gallery : Iron to Gold / Ashes to Hope. Curated by Amanda Krampf.

Artists: Monica Canilao, Swoon, Bunny Reiss, Heidi Tullmann, Amanda Stone, David D'Andrea, more.

Comment by AB: Chandran Gallery doesn't technically exist yet, so tonight's expansive post-apocalyptic hoedown briefly fills the void. It's a fundraiser for Treasure Nest House and future art-related projects in Detroit, sponsored by Chandran Gallery in association with Juxtapoz and Powerhouse, and showcases the work of some of our most talented, creative and progressive urban practitioners. An installation extravaganza for the ages.
