photo san francisco , the first annual San Francisco Photographic Print Exhibition, opened Thursday July 27 with a preview party to benefit The SoMa Partnership , a nonprofit organization that offers pre-employment training to qualified homeless residents who are recovering from alcoholism or drug dependency. The venue is Herbst Pavillion at Fort Mason Center-- directly on San Francisco Bay. Luminaries too prominent to mention were everywhere and a fun time was had by all. Plenty to eat and drink, great chit-chat, awesome sunset directly through the Golden Gate Bridge, the finest in vintage and contemporary photographic images, loads of cute people to look at, and even a little buying and selling made the evening a complete success.

This innaugural exhibition runs through July 30 with 70 top international dealers of vintage and contemporary photography coming from as far away as Czechoslovakia to show their finest images. Thousands of photographs are available for sale with prices ranging from under $100 to over $200,000 for timeless masterworks by the most famous photographers of all time. Most dealers exhibit a wide range of images, but at the same time specialize in particular photographers, time periods, or geographical regions. Participants include:

Henry Feldstein from New York, Weegee expert, and John Cleary from Houston, specialist in Kertesz and Doisneau.

Paul Hertzmann and Susan Hertzig of San Francisco, Edward Weston experts.

Michael Dawson from Los Angeles, specialist in fine vintage photographs of California and the Southwest.

Carl Mautz of Nevada City, California, specialist in 19th century Western photography and publisher of photography reference books.

Charles Hartman of San Francisco who states "I specialize in really good pictures."
